Terry Miller

Terry Miller (born November 10, 1942 in San Francisco , California , † April 13, 1989 in Seattle , Washington ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ), who was lieutenant governor of the state of Alaska from 1978 to 1982 . He was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega Student Association at the University of Alaska Fairbanks .

Miller began serving as a city councilor in North Pole two days after his 21st birthday . He was also the same year the youngest member of the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly and Fairbanks in the Alaska House of Representatives voted. Then he was a member of the Alaska Senate from 1969 to 1977 , where he was president from 1973 to 1974. Miller was Lieutenant Governor Jay Hammond and served in that position from 1978 to 1982.

He also suffered defeats in his political career. He lost 1974 in the Republican nomination for a seat in the US Senate and 1978 in the Republican nomination for the post of Governor of Alaska. Four years later he was defeated in parliamentary elections for the post of lieutenant governor.

He died of a bone tumor in 1989 at the age of 46 .

Honors

Both the Terry Miller Legislative Office Building in Juneau and a park in his hometown of North Pole were named after him.
