Loren Leman (born December 2, 1950 in Pomona , California ) is an American politician and was Lieutenant Governor of Alaska from 2002 to 2006 .

Leman grew up in Ninilchik and attended high school there . He then studied at the Oregon State University and at Stanford University and the University of Alaska Anchorage .

He was first elected to the Alaska House of Representatives in 1988 and was a member from 1989 to 1992. In the same year Leman was elected to the Alaska Senate, of which he was a member from 1993 until his election to lieutenant governor. In the run-up to the election, he was able to prevail in the nomination for Republican lieutenant governor candidate against Sarah Palin and other competitors. After four years as lieutenant governor of Alaska, Leman did not run for a second term. His mandate was taken over by Republican Sean Parnell .

Leman is married and has three children, a son and two daughters. He lives with his family in Anchorage , a city he has been based in since 1975.
