Louis Mead Treadwell II (born March 21, 1956 in New Haven , Connecticut ) is an American politician . From 2010 to 2014 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Alaska .

Career

Mead Treadwell grew up in Newtown , where he attended public schools. This included Sandy Hook Elementary School , which was to become the site of a bloody shootout in 2012 . Then he was a page in the US Senate in Washington, DC for some time. Until 1978, he studied history at Yale University, among other things. After a stint as a political reporter for the Anchorage Times , he returned to the East, where he studied economic administration at Harvard University until 1982 . He then worked for the Yukon Pacific Corporation , of which he later became vice president. After the Exxon Valdez oil spill , he led the actions of the city of Cordova in fighting the oil spill. In business he became a member of several company boards.

Politically, Treadwell is a member of the Republican Party . Between 1991 and 1994 he was Deputy Commissioner of Alaska's Department of Environmental Conservation and Deputy Secretary of the Environment of Alaska. He also represented his state in several federal commissions, all of which dealt with arctic issues. This included the Arctic Research Commission , which he took over as chairman in 2006. In September 2008 he took part as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in Saint Paul . In 2010, Treadwell was elected Lieutenant Governor of Alaska, alongside Sean Parnell . He has held this office since December 2010. In 2014, he applied unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for election to the US Senate.
