Lowell Thomas Junior

Lowell Thomas Jr. (born October 6, 1923 in London , † October 1, 2016 in Anchorage , Alaska ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ), who held the office of lieutenant governor of Alaska from 1974 to 1978 .

career

Thomas initially worked as a film and television producer together with his father, the reporter and author Lowell Thomas , on several projects. He first ran for political office in 1962 as a Republican candidate for Alaska's only seat in the United States House of Representatives , but he was defeated by Democratic incumbent Ralph Julian Rivers . Two years later he faced Rivers again and increased his share of the vote, but failed again.

Then, in the early 1970s, Thomas was elected to the Alaska Senate. From 1974 to 1978 he was finally lieutenant governor of the state under Governor Jay Hammond .

Lowell Thomas was most recently still active as a bush pilot and environmental activist .
