John B. "Jack" Coghill (born September 24, 1925 in Fairbanks , Alaska , † February 13, 2019 in North Pole , Alaska) was an American politician ( Alaskan Independence Party ). From 1990 to 1994 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Alaska under Governor Walter Hickel . Coghill was mayor of Nenana , Interior Alaska , for 22 years . He was also a member of the Senate for the same area and a signatory to the Alaskan Constitution.

Coghill was married to Frances Peterson. The couple had six children together: Patty, John Jr., twins Jerry and Jim, Paula and Jeff. His father, William A. Coghill, was a pioneer who immigrated to the Interior from Valdez . He worked as a publisher for what is now the Fairbanks Daily News miner and opened the trading office in Nenana. The Coghill Store is still operating and family-owned today. Jack had two older brothers, William F. ( Col. US Army Ret. And former CFO of the Alaska Railroad ) and Robert A. Sr. (deceased, managed the Coghill Store after the death of William A.).

Honors

He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2004 .
