Lajma is a town in the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Lajma is a traffic junction in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Caracollo in the province of Cercado . The village is located on the Bolivian Altiplano at an altitude of 3729 m about fifteen kilometers northeast of the ridge of the Serranía de Huayllamarca .

Lajma is located on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east. The climate of the region is a typical time of day climate , in which the average values of the temperatures fluctuate more clearly during the day than during the seasons.
The mean annual temperature of the region is 8 to 9 ° C (see climate diagram Lajma), the monthly values fluctuate between 11 ° C from November to February and 4 ° C in July. The annual precipitation is about 350 mm, whereby significant precipitation between 50 and 90 mm only falls from December to March, in the other months the monthly precipitation is rarely more than ten millimeters.
Transport network
Lajma is located 75 kilometers by road west of Oruro , the capital of the department of the same name.
From Oruro, the paved road Ruta 1 leads north towards Caracollo and La Paz . Five kilometers behind Oruro, the Ruta 31 branches off as an unpaved road to the northwest and after 44 kilometers crosses the Río Desaguadero . From here the road runs for 26 kilometers in a south-westerly direction via La Joya to Lajma and on to Chuquichambi , where the road crosses the Serranía de Huayllamarca .
In a north-south direction, a connecting road runs through Lajma between the villages of Papel Pampa in the north and Villa Cruce in the south.

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Aymara population, in the Municipio Caracollo 65.5 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
