Lake Ohia is a small settlement in the Far North District of Northland on the North Island of New Zealand .
Origin of name
The settlement was named after Lake Ohia in the north .
geography
Lake Ohia is located around 12 km northeast of Awanui , between Kaingaroa in the southwest and Aurere in the east, on New Zealand State Highway 10 . A few kilometers to the northwest is the natural harbor Ranghaunu Harbor and about 5 km northeast of the Doubtless Bay .

The lake of the same name was the beginning of the 20th century because of the underlying significant Kauri resin -Occurrence of Gumdiggern drained. In the former lake bed, remains of kauri trees and signs of excavations for the fossil kauri resin can still be seen today. The lake only has water for about two months a year and is now a wetland.
