Lakhimpur is a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .

Lakhimpur, named after the Hindu goddess of luck Lákhim according to Egli , is located in the north Indian plain 125 km north of Lucknow . In the north of the city the Ull , a right tributary of the Ghaghara , flows in an easterly direction. Lakhimpur is the administrative seat of Lakhimpur Kheri District .

Lakhimpur is located on the national highway NH 730 , which connects Lakhimpur with Gola Gokarannath and Bahraich . Lakhimpur is connected to the city of Sitapur , 40 km south, by a main road.

Lakhimpur has had the status of Nagar Palika Parishad as a city since July 14, 1968 . It is divided into 27 wards . At the 2011 census, Lakhimpur had 151,993 inhabitants.
