Sitapur is a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .

Sitapur is located in the north Indian plain on the course of the Sarayan , a left tributary of the Gomti . The city is 85 km north of Lucknow . Sitapur is the administrative center of the district of the same name .

Sitapur is located on the national highway NH 24 , which connects Shahjahanpur with Lucknow. The parallel railway line also runs through the city. Main roads lead to the surrounding larger cities of Bahraich , Hardoi and Lakhimpur .

Sitapur as a city has the status of Nagar Palika Parishad . It is divided into 30 wards . At the 2011 census, Sitapur had 177,234 inhabitants.
