history

A group of young artists (including vocal-groove-project Bauchklang , visual artist Quartz) had rooms in the Frostl company building made available by the city of Sankt Pölten in 1995. When the building was due to be demolished in 1999, the group were offered alternative locations. At this time the Lames association was founded from this collective. Lames moved into a site at Spratzerner Kirchenweg 81-83, although the same was intended for the construction of residential complexes. In 2002, a fire in one of the buildings led to the destruction of works of art and private property of the association members, as well as the city's deliberations to completely demolish the building and offer a replacement location to the cultural workers. This proposal was rejected by Lames due to the socio-cultural infrastructure of buildings and park areas that had been created by then. In 2011 the initiative St. Pölten needs parking space was formed! - Registered on September 7, 2011 as the Sonnenpark Association .

In addition to a neighborhood initiative, the association tries to maintain the 50,000 m² area and is committed to preserving the place. In 2015 the platform Sonnenpark stays !, which was made up of members of the Sonnenpark, Lames, Grund and Neighbors associations, demanded clarity from the city government about the development plans for the Sonnenpark that have existed since 2007. After a petition with around 2,500 signatures, the purchase contract was reversed in a municipal council resolution in 2016 and the charitable work of the associations was recognized. A lease agreement was signed with the city on March 19, 2018. St. Polten.
