Lance Dunbar Jr. (born January 25, 1990 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) is an American American football player on the position of running back and is also used as a returner in the special teams . He is currently a free agent in the National Football League (NFL).
college
Dunbar played for the University of North Texas from 2008 to 2011 . He's been a very solid running back in college football for the past three years and has set multiple records at the Sun Belt Conference .
In total , he ran 4,224 yards in the four years at college and scored 41 touchdowns . He also caught a total of 97 balls for 1,033 yards and 8 touchdowns.
NFL
In the 2012 NFL Draft , Dunbar was initially not selected by any team because there were doubts whether he could be successful as a running back in the NFL with his small height . Eventually he was signed by the Dallas Cowboys before the 2012 NFL season after he could prove himself in their training team.
Dallas Cowboys
Dunbar played a total of five seasons with the Cowboys. During this entire time he was always employed as a so-called third-down-back and return specialist , where the cowboys were able to take advantage of his enormous speed and agility due to his size.
During the 4th game week of the 2015 season , Dunbar tore the anterior cruciate ligament and the inner collateral ligament in his left knee joint and had to end the season prematurely.
Before the 2016 season , on March 17, 2016, Dunbar extended his contract with the Cowboys by one year.
Los Angeles Rams
After spout his last contract with the Cowboys signed Dunbar on 16 March 2017 a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams at a level of 3 million US dollars . With the Rams he was taken under contract to take on similar sporting tasks as with the Cowboys, the Rams wanted to use him even more often as a third-down-back and drew comparisons to Chris Thompson .
Even before the start of the 2017 regular season , Dunbar had to be put on the PUP list on July 28, 2017 due to persistent knee problems .
On November 11, 2017, Dunbar was added to the active squad and was used for the first time for the Rams in the regular season on matchday 10 .
After the 2017 season, his contract with the Rams was not renewed, so Dunbar became a free agent .
