The Landauer Hütte am Zimmerbrunnen is a refuge in the Palatinate Forest managed by the Landau section of the Palatinate Forest Association . It is located in the southern part of the Haardt on a saddle called "Zimmerplatz" between the Roßberg ( 637  m ) in the north and the Orensberg ( 581  m ) in the south and the Hainbachtal in the east and the Dernbachtal in the west. The hut is at an altitude of 460  m .

history

In the 13th century, the carpenters used the space to build Neuscharfeneck Castle , just under a kilometer away . Hence the name Zimmer (manns) place. Later the castle garden was located here, where vegetables and spices were grown.

The first Landau hut was built in 1908 by the Landau local group of the Palatinate Forest Association on Zimmer (manns) Platz. The hut, which was initially open, was converted into a lockable hut in 1921. On March 19, 1922, the farm began operating on Sundays. Due to the large number of visitors, the extension of the hut began in the summer of 1923 and was completed in August 1924.

The hut was badly damaged during the First World War and could only be rebuilt slowly. On November 2, 1930, after the French had withdrawn, a "liberation linden tree" was planted in front of the hut. The Landauer Hütte was used by the Palatinate Forest Association during the Second World War until the end of the war, with the exception of a brief occupation by an anti-aircraft squadron of the Wehrmacht. After the end of the war, the association's activities were forbidden by the French occupation and the hut was left to decay.

The refurbishment of the hut began in September 1948 after the association was re-established and approved. After the reconstruction, the management operations were resumed on April 7, 1949. In the 1960s, the hut was expanded and an open shed was built. From March to December 1987 the hut was completely refurbished and another extension was added.

Access and walks

The hut can only be reached on foot. It is located at the intersection of three hiking trails, so it can be reached from six directions. The shortest ascent from Dernbach can be done in about 45 minutes or from the hiking inn Dernbacher Haus on the way in about 30 minutes. From the north, the hut can be reached in about an hour from the Drei Buchen pass or from the Modenbachtal via the Dreimärker. The ascent from Frankweiler through the Hainbachtal or from Albersweiler over the Schwelterbachtal takes place from the south .

Sights near the hut are the ruins of Neuscharfeneck Castle and the Orensfelsen on the Orensberg. The neighboring huts of the Palatinate Forest Association are the Waldhaus Drei Buchen , the Trifelsblick Hut , the St. Anna Hut and the Ringelsberg Hut .
