The Ronsdorfer street is a street in Wuppertal , the districts of Elberfeld and Ronsdorf together. It is also classified as part of the state road L 417 ( NRW ).

course

Ronsdorfer Straße begins in Elberfeld at around 170 meters sea level as an inner-city street with dense buildings on both sides. It continues as an extension of the street Wolkenburg in der Kluse , near the Wuppertal main station and traffic junction Döppersberg . After about 140 meters, it crosses Adersstrasse , which comes as the L 417 from the main station. After a further 310 meters, the building of the road relaxes laterally to and from the west opens the Blank road , which has a complicated intersection construction plan free is fed into the Ronsdorfer road.

After another 450 meters and the junction of the Kluser Höhe , it has reached the Bendahler Bachtal , turns sharply south at 210 meters above sea level and leads up the flank of the wooded western slope to the southern heights . At the height of the administration building of Barmenia Versicherungen and the junction of Barmenia-Allee , the road has been expanded as a four - lane road since the mid-1980s , with the two lanes being separated by a green median. After around 2500 meters it ends at the confluence of the street Am Walde in around 310 meters above sea level on the suburb of Barmen .

As Lichtscheider Straße , the L 417 continues to the Lichtscheider Kreuz. The L 417 then meets the Landesstraße 418 and Landesstraße 419 on the Lichtscheid at about 350 meters above sea level , then continues through Ronsdorf and ends later in Remscheid - Lüttringhausen .

Originally, the route was provided with street lighting , due to the poor financial situation of the city, the lighting, as on Landesstraße 418, was switched off at the end of the 1990s.

history

Ronsdorfer Straße (and the L 417 in the further course) runs almost its entire length on historic streets that were already important for local and regional traffic in the 19th century. Only the section of Ronsdorfer Straße between Barmenia Versicherung and Lichtscheid was straightened and expanded to four lanes in the mid-1980s, with the last remnants of the tram that once ran on the street , which branched off at the Am Walde street , using the several 100 meter long Gelpetal tunnel crossed today's Landesstraße 418 and met the L 417 again at Lichtscheid at the level of the tram depot (on the site of today's Bergische Sonne leisure pool ).

The old Ronsdorfer Straße , the remains of which run partly parallel to the Ronsdorfer Straße, was expanded beforehand in 1857 and is part of the old provincial road from Elberfeld to Radevormwald , which was laid out in 1802-04. The older name, which is documented from 1864, is Ronsdorfer Chaussee . It bears its current name from 1873 (according to the address book) - but there is no evidence of an exact naming date.

Because of the high speeds at which people drive here, the road is a hot spot for accidents. Attempts were made to counteract this by means of speed limits and traffic lights.

Road environment

To the west of Ronsdorfer Straße, on Alte Ronsdorfer Straße , is the Böhler Hof . The court building, with out falling in this region stepped gables , was built in 1860 and was in the late 1970s threatened with demolition. However, it was restored through a private commitment and is now a listed building .

Barmenia moved into the new administration building in 1966, which was expanded in 1971 and 1980. Starting in 2004, three more widely visible new office wings were built, which will be completed in 2010 after a six-year construction period. Before the Barmenia settled here, the Hermes & Saurenhaus brewery was located at this location.

At the southern end of the four-lane expansion of Ronsdorfer Straße in Elberfeld, the "Descent Bendahl" was planned in the 1950s, which would create a direct connection to the federal highway 7 in Unterbarmen and in the following years a connection to the federal highway 46 . However, this very complex structure never came to be executed. In the meantime, the plans have been officially rejected, but have been and are politically discussed again at irregular intervals.
