The State Constitutional Court of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is the state constitutional court of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and is responsible, among other things, for constitutional complaints , organ disputes and the examination of the compatibility of state legal provisions with the constitution of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

The state constitutional court has its seat in the Hanseatic city of Greifswald .

The court shares its listed building at Domstrasse 7 with the Upper Administrative Court of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the Administrative Court of Greifswald .

Members

In addition to the President and Vice-President, the State Constitutional Court consists of five other members and their deputies. The president and three other judges must be qualified to hold judicial office . Each member has a deputy. The state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania elects the members of the state constitutional court and their deputies with a 2/3 majority for twelve years.

It is true that the court was established institutionally on November 15, 1994 when the state constitution came into force. However, the first members were sworn in on November 23, 1995. The first President of the State Constitutional Court was Gerhard Hückstädt . Her successor was Hannelore Kohl as President of the Court from 2008 to 2017 . Burkhard Thiele was President of the State Constitutional Court from 2017 to 2020, and Monika Köster-Flachsmeyer since 2020 .
