history

The Freiburg Regional Court emerged from the Court Court of the Upper Rhine District , which was founded in 1807 in the Grand Duchy of Baden with its seat in Freiburg. It was responsible for the offices of Breisach, Emmendingen, Ettenheim, Freiburg City, Freiburg Land, Hornberg, Jestetten, Kenzingen, Lörrach, Müllheim, Säckingen, St. Blasien, Schönau, Schopfheim, Staufen, Triberg, Waldkirch and Waldshut and the associated local courts. From 1864 it was called the district and court court, which changed to a regional court with the imperial justice laws of 1879. As a result, it was largely given its current responsibilities.

A study published in 2016 by a scientist from the Freiburg-based Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law showed that judges in the Freiburg Regional Court District on average render the most lenient judgments nationwide.

From autumn 2017 to spring 2018, the nationwide trial of the Maria Ladenburger murder took place here.

On the occasion of the group rape trials in Freiburg , three rows of spectators had to be sawed out in the listed jury court room IV. There has never been a trial with eight defendants there. In addition to these, there must be space for defense lawyers, interpreters and the public prosecutor's office. In addition, the duck pond was built over in the inner courtyard so that there is space for eight prisoner transporters.
