Lanton is a village in the Scottish Council Area Scottish Borders or in the traditional county of Roxburghshire . It is located about three kilometers northwest of Jedburgh and 13 kilometers northeast of Hawick near the right bank of the Teviot .
history
Around one kilometer east of Lanton are the ruins of the Tower House Timpendean Tower . The defense tower goes back to the 16th century. The surrounding ramparts, however, point to an earlier fortified structure at the site. Knowesouth's Pigeon House, now a listed building, was built not far in the 18th century . After completing his civil service in India, Thomas Elliott Ogilvie bought a property near Lanton in the 1780s. The country villa Chesters House was built there by 1790 .
Antony Fasson , who served as a lieutenant in the British Navy, was born in Lanton in 1913. During the Second World War he recovered code books from the sinking submarine U 559 , which were crucial for deciphering the Enigma M4 code.
In 1961 Lanton had 68 inhabitants.

The A698 (Hawick– Berwick-upon-Tweed ) runs a few hundred meters north of Lanton . It connects the village in the east at Ancrum to the A68 ( Edinburgh - Darlington ) and in the west of Hawick to the A7 (Edinburgh - Carlisle ).
