The Larmanjat was a monorail that had been developed by the French engineer Jean Larmanjat (born March 4, 1826 in Huriel ).

history

There were three railway lines of this type in Portugal, which connected Lisbon with Torres Vedras and Sintra , among others . The experimental railway from Arco do Cego to Lumiar was inaugurated on January 31, 1870, the railway from Lisbon to Sintra on July 5, 1873 and the railway from Lisbon to Torres Vedras on September 6, 1873. Overall, the network had a length of about 80 km. After several years of operation with various problems, the Larmanjat was shut down in 1877 when the operating company went bankrupt.
