Larry Epstein

Larry Gedaleah Epstein (* 1947 ) is a Canadian economist and university professor .

Career, research and teaching

Epstein studied mathematics at the University of Manitoba , where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1968 . After completing a master's degree at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem by 1970, he then returned to Canada. There he worked under Otto Emil Lang and his successors Bryce Mackasey and Robert Andras until 1974 in the Ministry of Labor and Immigration . He then returned to academia when he obtained a Ph.D. - Studied economics at the University of British Columbia , which he successfully completed in 1977. He then went to the University of Toronto as an Assistant Professor . After being promoted to associate professor in 1980, he was appointed full professor at the university in 1983. In 1998 he followed a call from the University of Rochester to the Elmer B. Milliman Chair , and in 2007 he was appointed to Boston University .

Epstein's work focuses on business mathematics , decision theory and asset pricing .

Epstein has been a Fellow of the Econometric Society since 1989 and a Fellow of the Canadian Economic Association since 2019 . In 2013 he was accepted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . He has received several awards for his work, including the Frisch Medal of the Econometric Society in 1994 together with his compatriot Stan Zin .
