Larry Maddock (real name Jack Owen Jardine ; born October 10, 1931 in Eaton Rapids , Eaton County , Michigan ; died April 14, 2009 in Northern California ) was an American science fiction writer.

Life

Jardine was the son of John W. and Blanche M. Jardine. After college he worked as a newspaper reporter, broadcaster, editor of a men's magazine, television technician, salesman and most recently as creative director of two radio stations in Arizona . In 1958 he married the dancer and actress Julie Anne Harihor with whom he wrote two novels that appeared under the pseudonym Howard L. Cory , which was composed of Corrie Howard , his wife's stage name, and an "L." for "Larry" . The marriage ended in divorce in 1967. In 1968 he married again and had a daughter from this marriage.

In 1954 he published his first short story, The Disembodied Man . This was followed by a series of short stories about the Alien Webley, which then also appears in the Agent of TERRA novel series as a partner of the protagonist Hannibal Fortune. Fortune, a James Bond- style time-traveling agent , works for TERRA, which stands for Temporal Entropy Restructure and Repair Agency . Its task is to encounter the machinations of Empire in different historical epochs, a sinister galactic organization that tries again and again to change the timeline of human history in its favor. The four novels in the series were published in German translation as a Terra paperback .

In addition to this series and the two novels written with his wife, The Mind Monsters (1966) and The Sword of Lankor (1966), Maddock also wrote several erotic novels in the early 1960s, some under the pseudonyms Arthur Farmer and Alan Hunter .
