Career
Romanchych spent his junior years in the Western Canada Hockey League (WCHL) between 1967 and 1969 . There the striker first played one season for the Brandon Wheat Kings before he switched to league rivals Flin Flom Bombers , with whom he won the President's Cup , the championship trophy of the WCHL, at the end of the 1968/69 season. With 19 scorer points in 18 playoffs, he played a major role in this. Consequently, he was selected in the second round of the Chicago Black Hawks of the National Hockey League (NHL) in the second round in 1969 in the NHL Amateur Draft .
At the beginning of the 1969/70 season, the Canadian was under contract with the Chicago Black Hawks, but spent the following three years until the summer of 1972 - with the exception of ten NHL appearances for Chicago in the 1970/71 season - but entirely with their farm team , the Dallas Black Hawks , in the Central Hockey League (CHL). There he was able to win the Adams Cup with the team in the 1971/72 season . He contributed seven points to the success in twelve playoff games. Subsequently, it was no prospect of a place in the NHL squad Chicago unprotected for NHL expansion draft in 1972 approved where it the newly established franchise of the Atlanta Flames chose.
In the 1972/73 game year , the attacker managed to get a regular place in his new employer's line-up. He collected 48 scorer points, which he increased to 51 the following year. The 1974/75 season was followed by a weaker year after he was out longer due to a knee injury. Before the start of the 1976/77 season, the 27-year-old was initially deported to the CHL, where he ran up for cooperation partner Tulsa Oilers . It wasn't until the end of the season that the striker found his way back to the Flames' NHL squad. However, Atlanta did not extend his contract after the season, whereupon Romanchych joined the Maine Mariners from the American Hockey League (AHL) as a free agent in the summer of 1977 . This he led with eight goals in the playoffs to win the Calder Cup . After the triumph, he ended his active career shortly before his 29th birthday. Between 1985 and 1987 he worked briefly as a coach in the British Columbia Junior Hockey League (BCJHL).
