Larry Warrilow

Lawrence David "Larry" Warrilow (born June 24, 1945 in Fort Lauderdale ; † May 18, 2010 ) was an American guitarist and arranger, who became known through his collaboration with Jaco Pastorius .

Warrilow moved with his family to Miami in 1959 and studied physics at Florida State University . After completing military service in the US Air Force from 1966 to 1968, he played in various bands in southern Florida, such as Al & Sol Varon in Miami and in various hotel bands. From the 1970s he worked in Peter Graves ' Orchestra, with which he a. a. has appeared with Pat Metheny , Danny Gottlieb , Mark Egan , Jerry Coker and Ron Tooley . Jaco Pastorius, with whom he worked from the 1970s, brought him to his productions Word of Mouth and The Birthday Concert ; after Jaco's death he played on the tribute album Heads Up , in the Jaco Pastorius Big Band ( Word of Mouth Revisited ) and on the album The Word Is Out . He has also worked as arranger, orchestrator and copyist for the Bee Gees ( Saturday Night Fever ), Barbra Streisand , Bobby Bland and Ziggy Marley , as a sound engineer for Count Basie , Randy and Michael Brecker , Bob James , Tom Scott , Toots Thielemans and Stanley Turrentine . Warrilow died in May 2010 at the age of 64. In 1984 he wrote the score for the first episode of the TV series Miami Vice .
