Lasha Gobadse (* 10. January 1994 in Khulo , Adjara , Georgia ) is a Georgian wrestler . In 2019 he became world champion in the Greco-Roman style in the weight class up to 82 kg body weight.
Career
Lascha Gobadse started wrestling back in 2000. He belongs to the Adjana Batumi sports club and is trained by Levan Schawadze. He only wrestles in the Greco-Roman style and weighs about 85 kg as an adult with a height of 1.73 meters. He is also well known in German wrestling circles because he also competes for VfK Schifferstadt . Currently he is a professional wrestler.
He made his first start at an international championship in 2009 at the European Junior Championships (age group "Cadets") in Zrenjanin. In the weight class up to 69 kg, however, he still had to pay hardship and only came in 24th. Just one year later, Lascha Gobadze won his first medal at an international championship with a bronze medal at the European Junior Championships ("Cadets") in Sarajevo in the weight class up to 76 kg.
In 2011 he won two more medals at international championships. At the Junior European Championships ("Cadets") in Warsaw he took 2nd place and at the Junior World Championships ("Cadets") in Szombathely he came in 3rd place. In both championships he wrestled in the weight class up to 76 kg body weight.
From 2012 Lascha Gobadse belonged to the junior category "Juniors". which again had different weight limits than the "Cadets". At the Junior European Championship 2012 (Juniors) in Zagreb, he only came 11th in the weight class up to 74 kg. In 2013 and 2014 he won three bronze medals at the Junior European Championships ("Juniors") and at the Junior World Championships ("Juniors"). Islam Abbasow from Azerbaijan and Denis Kudla (wrestler) from Germany were his toughest rivals for the respective titles in those years.
In March 2015 Lascha Gobadse won his first international championship title at the U23 European Championships in Walbrzych, Poland, in the weight class up to 80 kg. In the final, he won over Sargis Kocharyan from Armenia. In June 2015 he was used at the European Games in Baku among the seniors. He came there in the weight class up to 80 kg after a victory over Jonas Bossert from Switzerland and a defeat against Viktor Sasunowski, Belarus, but only on 10th place. In September 2015, he started in Las Vegas for the first time at a senior world championship. In the same weight class he won there against Nikolaos Varkas, Greece, Pear Balo, Serbia and Evgeni Salejew , Russia. In the semifinals he lost to the experienced Selcuk Cebi from Turkey. But he fought for a bronze medal with a victory over Samat Schirdakow from Kyrgyzstan.
In 2016 Lascha Gobadse was again U23 European champion in Russe in the weight class up to 80 kg. On the way to this success he won u. a. in the semifinals over Hannes Wagner from Germany and in the final over Burhan Abdudak from Turkey. He could not qualify for a start at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, because the weight class up to 80 kg is not Olympic.
At the U23 European Championships in 2017 in Szombathely he won a bronze medal in the weight class up to 85 kg after a loss in the semifinals against Ruslan Jusupow from Russia and at the U23 World Championships this year in Bydgoszcz he was in the final in the weight class up to 80 kg beaten by Burhan Akbudak.
In 2018, Lascha Gobadze from the Georgian Wrestling Association in the weight class up to 82 kg was used again at a world championship. He lost there in qualifying against Saeid Mourad Abdvali from Iran. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only took 26th place.
At the European Championships in Bucharest in 2019, he reached the final in the weight class up to 82 kg, in which he lost just on points against Rajbek Bisultanow from Denmark. Lascha Gobadze achieved the greatest success of his career in September 2019 in Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan). There he became world champion in the weight class up to 82 kg with victories over John Stefanowicz, USA, Qian Haitao, China, Nurbek Chashinbekow, Uzbekistan and Rafik Huseinow , Azerbaijan.
Whether Lascha Gobadse can compete in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo depends on whether he can qualify in the weight class up to 77 kg body weight, in which he would have to train, or in the weight class up to 87 kg body weight. The weight class up to 82 kg body weight is not Olympic.
At the 2020 European Championships in Rome, he stood in the weight class up to 82 kg. He lost in Rome in the qualification against Stanislau Schafarenka from Belarus. Since this did not reach the final, Lascha Gobadse was eliminated and only came in 15th place.
