Laszlo A. Vaskovics
Laszlo Arpad Vaskovics (born June 19, 1936 in Trstená na Ostrove ) is a Hungarian - German sociologist .
Life
Vaskovics attended elementary and middle school in Hungary and studied sociology, philosophy and psychology at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1962 . In 1969 he completed his habilitation at the University of Linz , followed by teaching activities there, at the University of Trier and at the University of Bamberg . There he held the Chair of Sociology I from 1976 until his retirement in 2002. His other functions at the University of Bamberg included founding dean of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, Vice President (1980-1984), head of the Social Science Research Center (1976-2001 ) and Director of the State Institute for Family Research (1996–2003). Since 1991 he has been an honorary doctor and since 2003 visiting professor at the Corvinus University Budapest . Since 1998 he has been a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences .
According to its own information, Vaskovics published 132 books, 14 research reports, over 100 essays and edited 12 books. The main topics were family, youth, old age, socialization , social inequality , poverty , religion and demography . From 1996 to 2003 Vaskovics headed the State Institute for Family Research at the University of Bamberg. It is the only social science research institute in Germany that is exclusively dedicated to family research. It examines the living conditions of families and their changes.
Vaskovics is a keen runner. Shortly before his 80th birthday, he completed the Vienna Marathon .
