action

Stan and Ollie are sailors who enroll in a shabby hotel on the harbor. The hotel owner Mugsie Long is a rough man and plans to marry a poor but beautiful girl - who has to work for him in the hotel - against her will. Mugsie notifies a justice of the peace who almost marries him to the girl, but Stan and Ollie take heart and come to the rescue of the girl. After a long fight, Mugsie Long, who loudly vows revenge on them, is defeated - but the two have also lost most of their property, as it is still in Mugsie's hotel. By chance they meet Harry Bernard, an old friend of Ollie's who is a successful boxing manager. He offers Ollie $ 50 if he goes to a boxing match that night. Ollie agrees to Bernard's offer, but then makes Stan a fighter and himself his manager.

In the evening, of all people, Mugsie Long is Stan's opponent in the boxing ring. Mugsie has his gloves filled with metal in order to get revenge on Stan in a particularly tough way. In the course of the fight, in which Stan desperately clings to Mugsie, they switch gloves. Mugsie realizes the mistake and tries desperately to get his metal glove back, while at the same time fleeing from Stan in the ring. In the end, Mugsie is hit by Stan rather by accident and goes down. Stan is celebrated in the boxing hall, only his manager Ollie is dissatisfied: Before the boxing match he had - having little confidence in his protégé - bet with a drunken spectator that Stan would lose and now has to give the drunk money. In the end, the two of them have to flee the boxing hall because Stan accidentally knocks down a policeman with the metal glove.
