Sam Lufkin
Samuel William Lufkin (born May 8, 1891 in Salt Lake City , Utah , † February 19, 1952 in Hollywood , California ) was an American actor.
life and career
Sam Lufkin made his film debut in a minor supporting role in Hauntes Spooks in 1920 . In the next thirty years he would appear in almost 160 films, but without ever getting hold of a leading role. He was regularly used by Hal Roach in his comedies, often in the role of the strict police officer or as an annoyed waiter.
Today Lufkin is best known for his regular supporting roles in Laurel and Hardy . In a period of 13 years he made 40 films with the comedian duo and thus appeared on average in more than every third film of the two. After Charlie Hall , he was the supporting actor with the most Laurel and Hardy appearances, ahead of James Finlayson and Mae Busch . In the role of a grim police officer, for example, Lufkin beats the comedian duo in the Oscar-winning short film Der grueling Klaviertransport with clubbeats. Laurel and Hardy, in turn, destroy Lufkin's house in The Unfinished Prefabricated House and catch his eye in Double Whopee . Lufkin also appeared in the comedian duo's later feature films, although his roles here were mostly very small and insignificant.
After the end of the Hal Roach films in the 1940s, Lufkin took on numerous minor supporting roles in Hollywood films such as Sister Kenny and Born to Be Bad . He worked as an actor almost until his death. Sam Lufkin died of uremia in 1952 at the age of 60 . Like Oliver Hardy, he is buried in Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in North Hollywood .
