Laurens Adsen also Adtsen or Atzen, Latinized: Laurentius Addi, (* 1551 or 1552 on Nordstrand , † March 15, 1603 in Witzwort , Eiderstedt ) was a German pastor and chronicler .

Life

From 1576 Adsen studied theology at the University of Rostock and was on April 11, 1581 Dr. theol. to Wittenberg . First he was rector at the school in Tönning and then in 1581 chief pastor in Witzwort, where he worked in the St. Marien church built in 1420 until his death in 1603. The particularly high pulpit is due to his height of 3 ½ Lübeck cubits (just over 2 m).

Adsen wrote a manuscript on the history of Eiderstedt, of which no copy seems to have survived. It is said to have lasted until at least 1588 and should not have had a title because , according to Reimer Hansen , it was written by Ambrosius Reuden in his Biblica Bibliorum Sacrorum Complectens Vocabulum ... as Annales Eiderstadenses and by Peter Sax as Annales trium provinciarum Eyderstadensium, Everschop et Utholm ex antiquo libro is quoted in his Exercitationes Historicae in Ernst Joachim Westphal's Monumenta inedita . Adsen's records were also taken into account by Anton Heimreich , IM Kraft and Johannes Moller as well as Johann Friedrich Camerer . Quoting is not uncommon because of the abbreviated representation in the form of initial letters (e.g. R. pbm Dn. LA pq W. for Referendus piae beatae memoriae Dominus Laurentius Addi quondam Witzwortensis ) or because the library location is specified (e.g. Mss. SH 215) difficult to see.

Since Adsen, is already on March 16, was the day after his death, buried the assumption close that he probably the plague fell victim, in his time in Husum raged.

The pastor of the same name Laurentius Atzen , born in Witzwort in 1679 and later living in Delve until his death in 1750, was his great-grandson . The manuscript of his great-grandfather is said to have neither seen nor known.
