Ambrosius Reuden

Ambrosius Reuden (also: Reudenius or Rudenius ; born February 1, 1543 in Groitzsch ; † June 1, 1615 in Jena ) was a German orientalist and Lutheran theologian .

Life

Reuden was the son of the city judge, councilor and mayor in Groitzsch Alexius Reuden and his wife Ursula Geißler. At the age of ten he attended school in Pegau and at the age of fourteen switched to the school in Müelte . In 1558 he continued his education in Halle (Saale) and in 1559 at the high school in Magdeburg . In 1565 he began studying at the University of Leipzig . Here he first completed philosophical lectures, acquired a baccalaureate in 1565 and the academic degree of master's degree in philosophy in 1568. Then he lectured and got married. In 1571 he moved to the University of Jena , where he gave private lectures on dialectics and physics.

In 1572 he received the same professorship. When major disputes arose in Jena in 1573, he withdrew into private life. When the University of Jena was relocated to Saalfeld because of the plague in 1578 , he took over the professorship from the late Hieronymus Opitz the Elder. J. for oriental languages . Since this professorship was closely related to the theological faculty, he received his doctorate in theology at the University of Wittenberg in 1586 and was then appointed professor of theology in Jena in 1596. Reuden, who had also been dean of the theological faculty, took part in the organizational tasks of the Jena University and was rector of the Alma Mater in the winter semesters 1587, 1593, 1599, 1603 and 1609 .
