Laurent Fuahea

Lolesio (Laurent) Fuahea (born September 5, 1927 in Hihifo ; † December 2, 2011 in Lano , Wallis and Futuna ) was a Tongan clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Wallis and Futuna .

Life

Fuahea studied at the Minor Seminary in Lano and from 1950 to 1957 Catholic theology and philosophy at the Seminary in Païta in New Caledonia . He taught for two years at the Minor Seminary in Lano and was ordained a priest on December 21, 1957 for the diocese of Wallis and Futuna. He was pastor of SIGAVE on the island of Futuna , a north-east of Fiji in the South Pacific lying island that the French overseas territory of Wallis and Futuna belongs. He was also a pastor in Nantes Métropole and Samoa .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on March 2, 1972 titular bishop of Bagai and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Wallis and Futuna . The bishop of Wallis and Futuna Michel-Maurice-Augustin-Marie Darmancier SM donated him episcopal ordination on July 16, 1972 ; Co- consecrators were Pio Taofinu'u SM, Bishop of Apia , and Patelisio Punou-Ki-Hihifo Finau SM, Bishop of Tonga . Fuahea was the first indigenous bishop in the diocese of Wallis and Futuna.

On April 25, 1974, Pope Paul VI appointed him. to the Bishop of Wallis and Futuna. On June 20, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related resignation.

He was an officer in the Legion of Honor .
