Laurentius Chapel

The Laurentiuskapelle is a Roman Catholic chapel in Wallenschwil, a village in the municipality of Beinwil (Freiamt) in the canton of Aargau .

history

Wallenschwil did not belong to the parish of Beinwil until 1856, but was an exclave of the parish of Muri , which was subordinate to the Muri monastery. A missal from 1333 has come down to us for this chapel . After Abbot Jakob Meier was deposed in 1596, the federal umbrella organization asked his successor Johann Jodok Singisen to repair the run-down chapel. After it was renovated in 1709/10, it was replaced by the building that exists today in 1745. The executors were the bricklayer Paul Rey and the carpenter Franz Mäder. Prince Abbot Gerold Haimb carried out the inauguration on July 31, 1746. Renovations took place in 1891, 1963 and 1988/90.

Building

The geostete band is located on a slope of the wall center-to-center wall it measures 24 × 12 meters. On choral the corners are bevelled, so that three sides of a hexagon formed. The flat-framed portal bears a round gable with Gerold Haimb's coat of arms above a cushion frieze . It is protected by a canopy on Tuscan columns. There are six arched windows on each long side . A curved bell tower rises above the continuous ridge of the gable roof . Inside, a choir arch separates the nave from the choir. The altar dates from 1730, the Régence style work consists of a blown gable and acanthus decorations. The altar panel painted by M. Bichler in 1830 depicts Saint Lawrence of Rome , while the upper panel shows Mary with the baby Jesus .
