Laurenz Börgel

Laurenz Börgel (born August 9, 1908 in Ibbenbüren ; † November 22, 1992 ) was a German entrepreneur , local politician and honorary district administrator ( CDU ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school , he completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer from 1922 to 1925 and passed the master craftsman's examination in 1933 after a few years as a journeyman . In 1932 he and his brother founded a construction business in Ibbenbüren, which is still run today by his children and grandchildren as the Börgel construction company. He was married and had three children.

In 1933 Börgel ran for the German Center Party . Despite his company's compulsory obligation to build bunkers in the Ruhr area, he was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1944 and was then taken prisoner by the British. In 1946 he was a co-founder of the CDU in the Tecklenburg district and from 1947 to 1971 chairman of the district association.

From 1948 until the regional reform on December 31, 1974, Börgel was a member of the district council of the then Tecklenburg district and from 1948 to 1966 chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. From September 20, 1966 to December 31, 1974 he was district administrator. Börgel succeeded District Administrator Richard Borgmann, who died on July 21, 1966 . From 1962 to 1964 he was a council member of the city of Ibbenbüren.

From 1966 to 1975 he was a member of the landscape assembly of the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe . Börgel was active in various committees of the district council NW .

Honors

On November 3, 1969, he was awarded the Order of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany .
