The Lauzon is a river in France that runs in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur regions. It has its origin in the municipality of Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux , where it is derived from the Canal de Donzère-Mondragon to the right, passes the Tricastin nuclear facility , generally drains in a south-westerly direction and flows 14 kilometers across from Pont-Saint- Esprit , but in the municipality of Mondragon as a left tributary to the Rhône . On its way, the Lauzon crosses the Drôme and Vaucluse departments .

history

The river originally ran from its source at Chamaret to the Rhône. When the Canal de Donzère-Mondragon was built in the middle of the 20th century, however, the course of the river was interrupted. Since then, the upper course has flowed into the canal and the lower course has been extended to the north in order to channel water from the canal as cooling water through the Tricastin nuclear power plant . The further course to the Rhône remained essentially unchanged. The former upper reaches of the Lauzon is now regarded as a separate body of water, see also the main article Lauzon (Bollène) .
