Lawrence G. Paull
Lawrence G. Paull (born April 13, 1938 in Chicago , Illinois - † November 10, 2019 in La Jolla , California ) was an American film architect .
Life
Paull studied architecture at the University of Arizona until 1968 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts . He then started to work in the field of urban planning . Since 1970 he has worked as a production designer for film, initially he was responsible for executing the designs of other film architects. In later years he designed independently.
From this time his dark future worlds in Ridley Scott's The Blade Runner deserve particular attention. For this achievement he was nominated for an Oscar and also received the British BAFTA and the London Critics' Circle Film Awards . Since then, Paull has designed the film architecture for a number of highly professional entertainment films such as On the Hunt for the Green Diamond , Back to the Future and City Slickers . At the turn of the millennium Paull withdrew from the active film business.
