Yasmine Leïla Bekhti (born March 6, 1984 in Issy-les-Moulineaux ) is a French actress .

Life

Bekhti was born in Issy-les-Moulineaux as the youngest of three children; her parents come from Sidi bel Abbès in northwest Algeria . Bekhti grew up in Bagneux , a suburb of Paris in the Hauts-de-Seine department , and graduated from the Lycée Maurice Genevoix in Montrouge . She then attended a theater school in Paris for half a year and took acting lessons in courses from Stéphane Gildas and Bérengère Basty .

Bekhti made her film debut in 2006 as the beurette Yasmin in Kim Chapiron's film Sheitan . She was first seen on television in the role of a young Algerian in the film Harkis , which was broadcast in 2006. Several television and cinema films followed. For her role in Tout ce qui brille , Géraldine Nakache's directorial debut , Bekhti won a César for Best Young Actress in 2011 . Bekhti also took on a leading role in Nakache's second feature film, Nous York . For her portrayal of Leila in Radu Mihăileanu's Source of Women , Bekhti received a César nomination for Best Actress in 2012 . In 2012 she was a member of the jury for the Un certain regard series at the Cannes International Film Festival .

In 2016, Bekhti played the lead role of murder investigator Kahina Zadi in the eight-part Swedish-French television series Midnight Sun. For her performance, she received a nomination for the Nymphe d'Or as outstanding actress in a television series at the Festival de Télévision de Monte-Carlo in 2017 . She received her third César nomination in 2019 for a pool full of men around a French men's synchronized swimming team.

Bekhti has been married to the Algerian actor Tahar Rahim since 2010 , whom she met in 2007 while filming A Prophet .
