The LeBoeuf Creek is a 29 km long tributary of French Creek in Erie County , Pennsylvania in the United States . The river has a catchment area of 165 km². The name of the river is the French expression for bison , le bœuf .

Run

LeBeoeuf Creek originates in Summit Township and meanders south before crossing US Highway 19 . The east arm of the river has its source in Greene Township and flows south until it pours into the main arm in Waterford Township . In Waterford , LeBoeuf Creek flows under the Waterford Covered Bridge and swings west. It crosses the US-19 again and pours into Lake LeBoeuf , which it then leaves again at its southern end. The course of the creek crosses the highway again and flows into French Creek near Mill Village .

history

In 1753, Fort Le Boeuf was built on the banks of LeBoeuf Creek by Paul Marin de la Malgue near what is now Waterford to protect the interests of the French in the Ohio Country against the British . The British dispatched George Washington to Fort Le Boeuf to deliver a note asking the French to leave the area.
