2018 : Sébastien is supposed to talk about his father and replies that earlier, if he resisted Étienne, he was beaten until he was big enough to fight back. He says there is no justice, only the law of the fittest, the law of nature. In the end, the expert's conclusion is that Sébastien, with regard to the events in the chalet, lives in an imaginary world and, if convicted, should be admitted to a psychiatric institution.

1997 : On the day before the night of the murder, Christine received a call in the pub that Muriel's lottery ticket had won 70 million francs and announced it to Philippe and Muriel. But Muriel says that she gave Jean-Louis the ticket and makes an appointment with him at the lake. Étienne decides that the tourist did not deserve the win and that they should repeat the ticket. It comes to the meeting between Jean-Louis and Muriel, at which he finally separates from her. Angrily, she promises him that she will deliver the ending to his book. After the night of the murder, Philippe is scared about Florence's threat. He and Christine kill his wife, making it look like she killed herself in the bathtub. Julien and Amélie are with Grossange, who wants to place them under different names with people who will take care of them. Julien laments the villagers should get away with it and decides that he and Amélie will eventually return.

2017 : Muriel goes to the lake in mourning to drown himself, but is shot on the stone bank beforehand. While cooking, Mathilde discovers the frozen Tiphaine in the cooling chamber, but hides it from Maud. Étienne claims to Sébastien that the Rodiers' children killed Christine. They suspect Fabio and Maud to be Julien and Amélie. When Alice and Fabio leave for the chalet, Fabio stays behind and suddenly disappears. The Genestas have tied him up and Étienne shoots him. Adèle confesses to Manu that she is Amélie and that she killed the people. She locks him up and leaves the chalet with a gun. In the village, she lures Sébastien out when someone knocks him down - Olivier, who is actually Julien. Alice comes to the chalet in search of Fabio and learns from Manu that Adèle is Amélie and that he suspects Fabio of being her accomplice Julien. After Manu and Alice have left the chalet, Étienne kidnaps Maud from the chalet. Olivier shoots Etienne on the village street so that Maud can escape, and Olivier and Adèle shoot Etienne together. They tie up Sébastien in the shed with the corpses of Christine and Fabio. Alice and Manu meet Adèle and Olivier, whom they now recognize as Julien, and the four go to the chalet. Olivier reveals himself to Mathilde there and discusses the plan with her: She should keep the truth and existence of Adèle / Amélie secret. The murders are said to be attached to Sébastien. After Alice remembers what she saw on the night of the murder, she joins it, then Maud and, after a long hesitation, finally Manu. At the end the last survivors watch as Julien and Amélie go into the forest.

production

Pont du Diable at Crouzet-Migette

The series was created by Alexis Lecaye and Camille Bordes-Resnais, who worked together for the crime film series Les Dames from 2013 to 2015 . The 1997 plot is said to have been inspired by the murders of the Flactif family in 2003 and of a vacationing family near Chevaline in 2012; the figure Alexandre Grossange by the mathematician Alexander Grothendieck . The shooting took place in the summer of 2016 in the French municipalities of Chamonix , where the chalet is located, and Bozel . The station in the first episode is the Gare de Morez and the bridge that is being destroyed is the Pont du Diable at Crouzet-Migette .

The first two episodes premiered at the Festival de la fiction TV in La Rochelle in September 2017, but were found to be too confusing by the critics and were then revised again on behalf of the channel France 2 . After the actress Blanche Veisberg died in December 2017 , the series was dedicated to her.
