Giles De'Ath, an aging writer shunned by today's media, begins to discover his interest in a young American actor after he happened to be on the run from a downpour in the screening of the teenage flick "Hot Pants College II" device. To his own surprise, he is attracted to the youthful supporting actor Ronnie Bostock and therefore watches “Hot Pants College II” over and over again. The elderly gentleman becomes a fan collecting all newspaper articles for his idol, who finally sets off for Long Island to meet him. He succeeds in doing this, but now faces the arduous path of confession of love.

The film is based on the 1990 story Love and Death on Long Island by Gilbert Adair . Their German translation was published in 1998 under the title Liebestod auf Long Island .
