The Gollwitzer Berg is a 85.9 meter high mountain in Brandenburg. It was formed during the Ice Age, belongs to the Karower Platte and is its highest point. It is located in the municipality of Rosenau, southwest of the Gollwitz part of the municipality . The border with Saxony-Anhalt and the area of the city of Jerichow in the district of Jerichower Land runs over the western slope . On the southern slope past the Steinbach drains the Karower Platte to the Fiener Bruch .

morphology

The Gollwitzer Berg as part of the Karower Platte was created during the last, the Vistula cold period . It was formed by ice masses advancing into Central Europe from the northeast. The old moraine core of the mountain is said to be of Cold Age origin. The Gollwitzer Berg is the highest elevation of a larger compression moraine complex . The Karower Platte still traces the main ice edge of the Brandenburg phase with the Zauche . The Gollwitzer Berg was not formed in this, but in the first rear ice edge layer, the ice edge layer 1a, during a repeated advance of the glacier ice, which also includes the Zolchberge between Kirchmöser and Wusterwitz and the Kirchmöseraner Mühlenberg .

Life expectancy

The remains of a tower are on the Gollwitzer Berg. Count von Wartensleben had this built between 1847 and 1848 with a small hunting lodge. The building was called the lifeguard. After the hunting lodge fell into disrepair over the decades, only the ruins of the tower remain today. It is a listed building.
