The Mühlenberg is 60.6  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in Brandenburg . It was formed during the Ice Age and belongs to the Karower Platte . It is located in the city of Brandenburg an der Havel not far from the Kirchmöser district . In the 19th century there was an optical telegraph station on the mountain. In addition, a burial ground on the mountain was archaeologically secured, the sites of which are placed under protection as a ground monument .

morphology

The Mühlenberg as part of the Karower Platte was created during the last, the Vistula cold period . It was formed by ice masses advancing from the northeast into central Europe. The Karower Platte still traces the main ice edge of the Brandenburg phase with the Zauche . However, the Mühlenberg was not formed in this, but in the first rear ice edge layer, the ice edge layer 1a, during a repeated advance of the glacier ice, which also includes the Zolchberge between Kirchmöser and Wusterwitz and the Gollwitzer Berg as the highest elevation of the Karower Platte.

history

Burial ground

An urn grave field with graves from the Late Bronze Age and the Iron Age was discovered on the Mühlenberg . These belonged to a settlement about half a kilometer north in the area of today's residential area Kirchmöser Dorf. The exact size of the burial ground can no longer be estimated, as the complex was systematically looted by grave robbers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Urns received are now in the possession of the museum in the Frey House , the City Museum of Brandenburg, the district Jerichower Land Museum in Genthin and a museum in Bremen .

Lookout tower on the Mühlenberg

Mühlenberg

Due to its elevated and local location, a post mill was built on the Mühlenberg . This was not on the highest point of the mountain, but on a 350 m north-northeast located 57.8  m high knoll. It was built in 1738 and existed until 1931. In 1998, a small observation tower was built on the site of the old mill by the association "pro Kirchmöser" eV . The approximately 5.5 meter high wooden tower is accessible via a steel spiral staircase attached to the side.

Telegrafenberg

Between 1832 and 1852 a Prussian optical telegraph stood on the Mühlenberg as part of an optical telegraph connection between Berlin and Koblenz . The locations of the individual telegraph stations, which also included the Potsdamer Telegrafenberg and the Brandenburg Marienberg , were preferably chosen on elevated plateaus for better visibility and communication was carried out via pivoting wings. Telegraph station 8 of the connection was built on the Mühlenberg. The optical telegraph was later replaced by the electromagnetic telegraph . After the demolition, only fragments of the station remain.
