Peter Ufer

Peter Ufer (born January 19, 1964 in Dresden ) is a German journalist, author and presenter.

Live and act

Ufer attended the EOS Bertolt Brecht in Dresden and passed the Abitur there. After an apprenticeship as a typesetter, he studied media studies and history in Leipzig.

In 1989 he founded the Südthüringer Zeitung together with friends during the fall of the Berlin Wall . He has been working for the Sächsische Zeitung since 1993 . In 1995 he received his doctorate from the University of Leipzig Dr. phil.

Ufer wrote several books on the history, culture, language and mentality of the Saxons.

He headed the culture department of the Sächsische Zeitung (SZ) for five years . In 1996 he developed the SZ supplement PluSZ, which appears on Thursdays . He established Augusto magazine in 1997. In 2002, Ufer took over the Dresden department of the Sächsische Zeitung and from 2003 to 2005 was the editor of the Sächsische Zeitung am Sonntag . Soon afterwards he was the chief editor of the Dresden edition of the Sächsische Zeitung.

In 2011, Ufer founded the Tom-Pauls-Theater on the market square in Pirna together with the actor Tom Pauls .

In addition, Ufer is dedicated to book projects. The first work was the publication of his dissertation “The Leipzig Newspapers between the French Revolution and Wars of Liberation”. Afterwards, books of knowledge appeared, for example about the Dresden Castle and the Meissen porcelain . There were also publications of around 100 columns for the Sächsische Zeitung, such as B. "Save us the Gogelmosch", Saxon for mishmash . Ufer also wrote a satirical biography about Ilse Bähnert . He studied the Saxon dialect and wrote the book "Germany, your Saxony".

Ufer has been chairman of the jury of the German Caricature Prize since 2003 and annually presents the best German caricatures in Quartier F at the Frauenkirche Dresden .

Ufer has been awarding the Saxon Word of the Year with the Ilse-Bähnert-Foundation since 2008 and holding a laudatory speech.

Ufer moderates the “Very personal” panel discussions in Stolpen . Guests were, for example, the Mayor of Dresden, Helma Orosz , entertainer Gunther Emmerlich , trumpeter Ludwig Güttler , Semperoper director Ulrike Hessler , Palucca professor Hanne Wandtke , the composer Udo Zimmermann and the architect Peter Kulka .

Private

Peter Ufer lives in Dresden, is married and has two children.
