history

As Castello di Monteluco a Lecchi , it was first mentioned in 1176 as a possession of the Ricasoli. When Siena had to surrender several castles to Florence in the same year , the castle was one of them. Six years later, the Badia a Coltibuono gave up its rights to the place and for several years the Mezzolombardi ruled from the nearby Castello di Tornano . The place below the castle was built around the parish church of San Martino at the end of the 13th century.
