Pricing policy
Leclerc formulated his idea of a price policy of low prices combined with a franchising model, in which the franchisee - in principle free of prices - can be excluded if too many of his prices are higher than those of his neighborhood. The operators know this and a simple letter to their address often rectifies the situation within 8 days in the event of an unusual deviation.
Business model
While the Intermarché supermarket chain is represented in many French city centers in terms of sales area on the same scale as they are in Germany, for example. B. known from the Lidl stores, the E.Leclerc chain with its hypermarkets on huge sales areas. The wide range of goods includes food including - unlike many German discounters - perishable fresh goods such as fish, meat and cheese, but also clothing , toys , household goods, etc. The markets are usually not "on the greenfield", but in local industrial areas ( center commercial ), have large, free parking spaces and usually a petrol station . The latter were already open until 8 p.m. in the past, when many unbranded petrol stations in France closed in the early evening. In contrast to other chains, E.Leclerc usually makes full use of shop opening times . There are E.Leclerc markets in France and Intermarché markets in Portugal that are open on Sundays.
When the French comedian Coluche propagated his idea of feeding the poor in 1985 in the form of the Restos du Cœur , the E.Leclerc chain was one of the first to respond to his appeal and donated a considerable amount of food.
