history

In 1949, Édouard Leclerc (1926–2012) opened his first shop in Landerneau in Brittany
In 1956 the clothing chain Leclerc vêtements was opened

Pricing policy

Leclerc formulated his idea of a price policy of low prices combined with a franchising model, in which the franchisee - in principle free of prices - can be excluded if too many of his prices are higher than those of his neighborhood. The operators know this and a simple letter to their address often rectifies the situation within 8 days in the event of an unusual deviation.

Business model

While the Intermarché supermarket chain is represented in many French city centers in terms of sales area on the same scale as they are in Germany, for example.
