Lee Chung-yong (born July 2, 1988 in Seoul ), known in German-speaking countries by the name order Chung-Yong Lee , is a South Korean soccer player . He is under contract with Ulsan Hyundai .

Career

society

Chung-Yong Lee, whose name means the blue dragon , began his career as a football player in 2003 in the youth division of FC Seoul . But only in his fourth season with the club he was brought into the first team under coach Şenol Güneş , with whom he narrowly missed winning the K-League title at the end of 2008 .

In the summer of 2009, the South Korean accepted an offer to move to the Bolton Wanderers , who played in the English Premier League . Here he scored the winning goal on his debut against Birmingham City , secured a regular place and contributed to the fact that the league was achieved in the 2009/10 season . In six years Lee came to 195 competitive games for the Wanderers, in which he scored 20 goals and 36 assists.

In February 2015, the midfielder switched to the first division club Crystal Palace in exchange for Barry Bannan , but did not get beyond the role of substitute player until his contract expired in 2018. In the 2015/16 FA Cup , he made it to the final with the club, where Manchester United was victorious in extra time.

In September 2018, Lee joined the German second division VfL Bochum . He made 37 compulsory games (one goal, six assists) and could not recommend himself for a regular place in Bochum either.

After the South Korean had been sorted out in Bochum at the end of January 2020, he returned to his homeland in March of the same year and found a job there with the first division club Ulsan Hyundai FC .

National team

After Lee had played in the various youth national teams of South Korea, he came in 2008 at the Olympic football tournament in Beijing for use. He had already played his first international match shortly before, on May 31, 2008 in the World Cup qualifier against Jordan . Lee took part in the 2010 and 2014 World Championships with the South Korean national team. In 2015 he and the team finished second at the Asian Cup after a 2-1 defeat in the final against Australia , but Lee was unable to participate in the rest of the tournament after an injury in the opening game.
