Lee Sholem

Lee Tabor Sholem (born May 25, 1913 in Paris , Illinois , † August 19, 2000 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film and television director .

Life

Sholem began his career as a film editor in the 1930s . Through a connection to the producer Sol Lesser , who owned the rights to the character Tarzan by the writer Edgar Rice Burroughs , Sholem, nicknamed "Roll 'Em Sholem" because of his quick and efficient way of working, got his first directorial work in 1949, the Adventure film Tarzan and the Blue Valley with Lex Barker in the lead role. The following year he made the second Tarzan film with Barker, Tarzan and the Slave Girl . In 1951 he made Superman and the Mole Men , the first movie with the character Superman , and 14 episodes of the resulting television series Superman - Savior in Need . In the following years Sholem was responsible for all episodes of television series, u. a. Official Detective , Sugarfoot , Bronco, and Cheyenne . His last film, the science fiction film Hydra Lost in Galaxy 4 , came out in 1972.

Lee Sholem died on August 19, 2000 at the age of 87 in Los Angeles .
