Wallard took part in 46 races of the AAA National Series between 1941 and 1954 , of which he won six. Between 1948 and 1951 Wallard competed four times in the Indianapolis 500 , in 1951 he won the race and thus entered the Formula 1 list of winners, as the Indy 500 were part of the World Cup from 1950 to 1960. Just four days after his victory, he had a serious accident in a sprint car race in Reading, Pennsylvania. He was badly burned and incapacitated for months. Then tried to continue his racing career, but he was no longer competitive enough.
After his retirement, he built a highway restaurant and tried his hand at racing as a racing instructor. He died of a heart attack in 1963.
