Legion of Mary was an American rock band , led by former Grateful Dead - band leader Jerry Garcia was established.

history

Each member of the Grateful Dead band had one or more side projects. One of Garcia's was the Legion of Mary . The band was officially launched on June 12, 1974 and disbanded on July 5, 1975. In addition to Garcia, Merl Saunders was one of the founding members, who often worked with Garcia and released albums with various artists. And the bassist John Kahn was part of the band, who for years played with Garcia and during this time at Grateful Dead own band called Reconstruction had. Furthermore belonged jazz - saxophonist Martin Fierro and drummer Ron Tutt to the band, which its greatest period as a musician of Elvis Presley had. Jazz drummer Paul Humphrey and dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann also played as guest musicians at concerts. After six months, Saunders was replaced by Nicky Hopkins . Martin Fierro also left the band. From the rest of the constellation, the Jerry Garcia Band was finally founded.

Legion of Mary was more experimental than Garcia's later and earlier side projects and often plays at concerts with a jazz and funk focus. The band played over 60 concerts in its short existence. The only albums were released long after the band broke up and Garcia's death. These albums were live recordings of cover versions of various folk, country and blues singers.
