Leo Albert Jozef "Lei" Clijsters (born November 6, 1956 in Opitter ; † January 4, 2009 in Gruitrode ) was a Belgian football player and later coach .
Career
Clijsters played as a center- back in the Belgian first division for Thor Waterschei and KV Mechelen . He participated with Belgium's national team at the 1984 European Football Championship in France , the 1986 World Cup in Mexico , where he celebrated his greatest success with fourth place, and the 1990 World Cup in Italy . In total, he played 40 international matches in which he scored 3 goals.
He was the father of the Belgian tennis players Kim Clijsters and Elke Clijsters .
Clijsters died of lung cancer on January 4, 2009 .
