The Austrian Athletics Association (ÖLV) sent six athletes to the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha . After a complaint by the Austrian federation because of the failure to consider two athletes, the world federation allowed the athletes to participate. The heptathlete Sarah Lagger also received an invitation; she had already finished her competition season.

Lukas Weißhaidinger won the bronze medal in the discus throw and thus the first medal for Austria's men in the history of athletics world championships. With bronze in the heptathlon , Verena Preiner won the fourth medal at a World Championships in Athletics for Austria, after the high jumper Sigrid Kirchmann (bronze 1993) and Stephanie Graf (silver 2001).
