Sarah Lagger (born September 3, 1999 in Spittal an der Drau ) is an Austrian heptathlete .
Athletic career
In 2015 Sarah Lagger set a new U18 world record in a heptathlon in Carinthia at the age of 15 and thus qualified for participation in the U18 World Championships in Cali , where she won the silver medal with 5992 points. The following year, she won the silver medal at the U18 European Championships, which was held for the first time, and had to admit defeat to the Ukrainian Alina Schuch .
Just a week later, she also took part in the U20 World Championships and surprisingly won the gold medal with a new Austrian junior record of 5960 points. At the Hypomeeting 2017 in Götzis, she improved her own personal best to 6012 points, making it only the third Austrian who exceeded this mark. At the U20 European Championships in Grosseto, she won the bronze medal with a new personal bursting mark of 6083 points.
In 2018 Sarah Lagger improved her own junior record at the Hympomeeting to 6156 points and qualified for the European Championships in Berlin . She then took part as defending champion in the U20 World Championships in Tampere , Finland , and had to admit defeat there despite the increase to 6225 points by Briton Niamh Emerson . At the European Championships she scored 6058 points and thus reached rank 13. The following year she took part in the U23 European Championships in Gävle and came there with 6026 points in fifth place, which was the first time she won a medal at the junior championships.
In 2015 and 2017 Lagger was Austrian champion in the long jump outdoors and in 2015 and 2019 also in the hall. In addition, she became national champion in the heptathlon in 2017 and 2018 and in the indoor pentathlon in 2016. In 2017 she also won the championship title with the 4 x 100 meter relay and in 2018 the indoor championship title in the high jump. In 2020 she won the indoor championships in the shot put and in the 4 x 200 meter relay. According to the evaluation of the IAAF World Annual Best List 2018, the three Austrian heptathletes Sarah Lagger (6225 points), Verena Preiner (6337 points; Union Ebensee) and Ivona Dadic (6552 points; Union St. Pölten) took first place in the global nation ranking for the first time.
