Leif Solberg (born November 8, 1914 in Lena , Østre Toten ; † January 25, 2016 in Lillehammer ) was a Norwegian organist and composer.

Life

Leif Solberg was born in 1914 on the Lena in Østre Toten and grew up there. He studied from 1933 to 1938 with Arild Sandvold at the Oslo Conservatory (Musikkonservatoriet i Oslo). In 1938 he made his debut as an organist at the Fagerborg kirke . After further training (organ with Finn Viderø ; conducting with Jørgen Jersild ) he had scholarships at Westminster Abbey in London and with Heinz Biehn and Egon Kornauth at the Mozarteum in Salzburg . When Anton Heilles in Haarlem he learned improvisation and Per Steenberg the counterpoint .

He was an organist (1938–1982) and music teacher (1949–1984) in Lillehammer. He was also the conductor of numerous choirs and gave a large number of concerts at home and abroad. He has composed numerous works. He became known with his work «Se solens skjønne lys og practice», which became a Norwegian folk song. He was a member of the Norwegian Society for Composers (Norsk Composer Forum).

Solberg was awarded the Royal Medal of Merit in Gold (Kongens fortjenstmedalje i gull) . A bronze bust of the artist stands at the main entrance to the church in Lillehammer. He was a Freemason in the Norwegian Order of Freemasons since 1949 and achieved the Xth degree of this system.
