geography
The community of Leinatal extended between the Thuringian Forest in the southwest and the city of Gotha in the northeast along the Leina , as the Hörsel is called in the upper reaches, at an altitude of approx. 405 m above sea level. The following villages belonged to the municipality based in Schönau vor dem Walde :
history
The community was founded on January 1, 1996 by amalgamating the communities of Catterfeld (with Altenbergen), Engelsbach, Gospiteroda, Leina and Schönau vor dem Walde (with Wipperoda), which until then had been independent communities in the Leinatal administrative community. On January 1, 2006, a comprehensive reform of the postcodes and street names was carried out, so that the entire municipality now had a uniform postcode and each street name only appeared once in the municipality.
On December 31, 2019, the community merged with the communities Georgenthal, Hohenkirchen and Petriroda to form the rural community Georgenthal . This became a fulfilling community for Emleben and Herrenhof .
mayor
Since May 2008 Uwe Oßwald (CDU) was the mayor of Leinatal. He was re-elected in March 2014 with 94 percent of the vote. Predecessor Klaus Jänsch led the community from 1996 to 2008.
